12 Jan 2008: Lisbon St Antonys 11-1 Chaddy End (HT 4-1) (Friendly Cup)

I didn’t know what to expect from today’s game, as Chaddy End are a new team for us to play, I did expect them to be bigger, faster and stronger than Lisbon, considering the age difference.

For the first 10 minutes Lisbon totally dominated the game, and it was only some very strong and late challenges that kept Lisbon at bay, and for the first 15 minutes the game was a stalemate.

Hanifa put Lisbon 1-0 up after winning the ball of a Chaddy End defender on 17 minutes; Chaddy then levelled the score on 19 minutes after a quick counter attack 1-1. After number of handballs and late challenges, Lisbon were awarded a free kick on 26 minutes, up stepped Whitby who lifted the ball over the wall from 20 yards to put the home team back in front 2-1. It took another 5 minutes for Lisbon to score their 3rd goal, this time Jess set up Whitby to score her 2nd goal of the game 3-1. Straight from the kick off Lisbon applied pressure on Chaddy End and won the ball back, Hanifa then set up Lucy for her first goal of the game to put Lisbon 4-1 up at half time.

Half time 4-1

The only change at half time was replacing Bethany for Laura, who got injured in the first half. .Lucy was 1st to score in the 2nd half after Jess beat the defenders for pace and set up an easy goal for Lucy to score 5-1. Goal number 6 was scored by Whitby, with once again Jess providing the assist 6-1. It was also nice to hear a very joyous Whitby shout YESSSS as she completed her hatrick, the first of many I hope for her this season. Goal number seven came after some amazing passing from the team – Hanifa crossed a great ball into the box for Jess to score a great left foot volley that gave the keeper no chance 7-1. Goal number eight and my favourite of the game was part of our half time team talk, which was when your opposition have ten players behind the ball, turn around and give ball to the player outside the box, for them to shoot. Fred did exactly this for Robyn to send a great 25 yard rocket into the back of the net 8-1. That goal was straight from the training ground and was amazing to see (well done), Whitby scored goal number nine, another great free kick from 20 yards, which gave the keeper no chance. Lucy then completed her hatrick with another well taken goal, this time it was Fred who got the assist 10-1. The final goal of the game was scored after a Chaddy End defender decided to handball the ball from a Lisbon corner, up stepped Ria who had only been out of net for five minutes to take the penalty kick, Ria decided to do a Ronaldo run and stop before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net (cheeky) 11-1.

The team played amazingly today against a very strong and determined Chaddy End, Lisbon were just to hot to handle with awesome passing and movement all over the pitch. I lost count of how many times I was impressed with the skills on show and clinical finishing in front of goal. It was a great team performance, with a very solid and commanding defence, overpowering midfield, and awesome movement from our forwards. In my opinion today’s game was the best I have seen Lisbon play all season.

Very well done, Dave, Claire & Pat
