3 Nov 2007: Lisbon St Antonys 6-3 Stalybridge (HT 3-1) - league cup

Today’s game was our second meeting with Stalybridge within a month, It was always going to be a tight game with the winners having a better weekend, Lisbon kept it tight at the back with Finney watching their number 11 closely . Whitby was also being closely marked by a Stalybridge defender, meaning a quiet first half for her.

Lisbon were definitely the better team throughout the game, and with Jess finally coming back to her best form, it didn’t take long for her to score Lisbon’s first goal 1-0. The first half finished 3-1 for Lisbon, and the half time talk was easy: (more of the same).

The second half started with Stalybridge scoring first 3-2, and there was a nervous five minutes before Whitby scored the best goal of the game, a well positioned volley 4-2. Stalybridge then scored again 4-3, before Lisbon finally finished the game off with two more goals 6-3

Today’s match was extremely enjoyable to watch with both teams playing nice attacking football. Finney got girl of the match with an excellent performance keeping the Stalybridge number 11 quiet all game.

Congratulations on a very professional performance, and well done to Hanifa who I thought was also excellent all game
