Today we played Stalybridge in our 2nd league game of the season, a win today would put Lisbon in pole position for defending their league title. Once again Lisbon played extremely well, this time Finney played a great game, totally taking their number 11 out of the game, helping to secure the win for Lisbon.
The only downside this week was me, the coach being asked to leave the pitch, the ref obviously didn’t like my singing - sorry team.

Very good performance today from all the team
Well done Dave & Claire & Pat
This was a close game and yet it shouldn’t have been – Lisbon had most of the possession and more serious attacks. Our defence was impressively rock solid against Stalybridge’s attacks. Yet Stalybridge scored two goals and came close to getting a third which would have led to a very tense final few minutes – how and why? Well, both goals came from corners – well taken fast corners that zipped through our defence on the wrong side and just needed a touch to go into the net. In fact, if memory serves, many of Stalybridge’s goals against us previously have come from well-drilled plays – even straight from kick-off. We know this but it’s difficult to stop – we’ll just have to be more careful. Oh, and by the way, this is our best score against Stalybridge, the first time we’ve beaten them by more than one goal! We really played very well throughout the game and 2-6 would have been a more realistic score..
